Competitive Intelligence, Law and Ethics
And Roundtable Discussion
Program Description
This presentation explains the basics of CI collection techniques and trade secret law. Learn how to collect CI in a legal and ethical manner, how to identify what makes an act illegal, and how to recognize the line between law and ethics.
Topics to be discussed include what is a “gray zone,” and whether it is legal to overhear a competitor on an airplane, to pick up a competitor’s lost document in the street, or to misidentify oneself as a student. The presentation also explains why abiding by the ethical standard will spare CI professionals and their companies potential legal problems and will explain why the Economic Espionage Act does not affect CI activities that are practiced in an ethical manner.
